Kindergarten Enrolments
Parents are requested to fill in enrolment
forms and return them to the school during the year before
the child is due to be enrolled. Proof of age must be shown
before a child can be accepted into a Kindergarten class.
Documentary evidence is to be provided by the sighting of
an original Birth Certificate (NB. Not a photocopy).
Immunisation Certificates must be sighted before enrolment.
All Kindergarten children can commence school at the
beginning of the year if they turn 5 years on or before
31st July of that year.
Most children live within the prescribed boundaries for
placement at our school. However, parents now have the
right to apply for enrolment in a school of their choice
other than the local school. A non-local application needs
to be completed for out of area students. All details of
this process will be explained by an executive member and
office staff.
Preparing your child for School
The whole family has a responsibility in
conveying a healthy attitude towards the Kindergarten child
starting school with anticipation of happy days ahead.
Encourage safe play at home, road safety and make your
child aware of "stranger danger".
Your child should...
• know how to unwrap his/her lunch, especially with "cling
wrap".
• know the difference between play lunch and "real" lunch.
• be able to undo his/her own bag and do it up again.
• know how to ask permission to go to the toilet and be
able to use the toilet correctly.
• know how and when to wash his/her hands (before lunch,
after the toilet and before coming into school after
lunch).
• know his/her own name, address and telephone number.
• many children have never heard their surname called
aloud, so perhaps you could use their full name
occasionally to familiarise him/ her with it.
• know how to use a handkerchief properly.
• be able to do up buttons and (hopefully) shoe laces and
take off and put on outer clothing without help.
Discourage "baby talk". Listen to
your child and share conversation with him/her daily.
Make sure he/she has adequate sleep and rest (no late T.V.
viewing) and a sensible amount of exercise and play in the
fresh air.
Read your child a bedtime story regularly.
Requirements on Enrolment
It is suggested that pupils in K-Yr 2 have
the following:
a) A school bag ("Back Packs" are
recommended for better posture).
b) A rain coat and rain hat.
c) A painting shirt that is long enough to
completely cover school uniform. One of dad's or mum's old
T-shirts can be converted.
d) A plastic lunch box and drink bottle
when lunch is brought from home.
e) A library bag 30 x 45 cm with
drawstring.
f) A large A4 size pencil case for
home/school readers.
Transfer of Pupils
If a pupil is transferring to another
school, parents are requested to notify us beforehand and
collect a transfer certificate from the office to take to
the child's new school - immediately prior to leaving. Your
child's work books can also be collected and taken with
you, provided reasonable notice is given for these to be
collected. In special circumstances (e.g. Mother in
hospital and child living with a relative for several
weeks) a pupil can attend another school on "Temporary
Transfer" in which case the school should also be advised.
Family Court Orders
Where there is a court order (ie Residence Order/Contact
Order/Specific Issues Order) for an enrolling or enrolled
student the school is required to sight this document so
that your child's best interests can be served if the
parent with whom the child does not resides requires access
to the child.
